A good way to save money and be productive is to utilize the free versions of the Google Office Productivity products. When establishing Metavisual, we decided it would be the best option for us. Here is what we use:
Gmail - In addition to being the slickest web based email around, we like the fact that we can do cool stuff like share contacts and easily created email lists and aliases.
Google Calendar (GCal) - It is a beautiful thing to have my Metavisual appointments displayed in an interface where I can see my personal appointments as well as my colleagues, my wife and even my son's baseball team.
Google Documents - We use Google Documents to share written information. Another neat trick is we use it as a whiteboard for conference calls so everyone can see and contribute to the same set of ideas and notes.
Google Spreadsheets - Who doesn't love a good spreadsheet with a pretty chart?
Google Analytics - The best way to track the most recent data about your website.
iGoogle - I use my iGoogle homepage as my digital homebase. I can monitor my email, keep a to do list,
Google Reader - Keep up with all your favorite websites and rss feeds through an easy to manage system.
Google Alerts - Keep tract of what the web is saying about you without the hassle of Googling yourself all day. (You have done this too, right?)
Google Talk - Anything that keeps you off the phone is a timesaver if you ask me but I still prefer plain old email. Voice chat is cool when you can't get to a phone. I also like setting my status to let people know what is up with me today. What did I miss?
